Flight of The Conchords

Published by tuna under Uncategorized

I just saw this video on VH-1 and thought it was great. After googling, I found that they have a series on HBO. This was my first time hearing them.

They’re a duo from New Zealand, Flight of The Conchords, check them out.

Free Slurpee Day!

7-Eleven Free Slurpee Day

In honor of 7-11 (July 11th) 7-Eleven is giving out free Slurpees. The kids are big fans of Slurpees, myself, not so much. But I love free stuff so we’ll definitely be getting our beverages from 7-Eleven that day.

To get your free slurpee just visit participating 7-Eleven stores and you too can have your very own brain freeze for nothing!

Imagine school without summer vacations?

Published by tuna under School

I read an interesting article on the history of the School Summer Vacation. Many, Many years ago, before the Civil War, schools used one of two calendars. The rural schools had Summer and Winter terms so that the children could help with planting and harvesting in the Fall and Spring. The urban schools had as many as 48 weeks of school with one break per quarter.

In the 1840’s that all changed when it was considered that rural schooling was insufficient and urban schooling was too much. The concern about the long school year was overstimulating young minds that could lead to nervous disorders or insanity.

Rest in Peace Scott Kalitta

Published by tuna under News

Scott Kalitta, a two time NHRA Top Fuel champion during the 90’s, was killed during a qualifying run yesterday at Englishtown. After crossing the finish line his engine exploded, engulfing his car in a quick burst of flames and incinerating his chutes. His car hit the end of the track at an estimated 300+mph. Upon impact, there was a second explosion. While it is being reported that Scott was later pronounced dead at a hospital, witnesses are certain he did not survive the initial engine explosion.

It’s Not Even Summer Yet!

Published by tuna under Weather

Summer begins June 20th but we’re entering day 4 of our heat wave here in Connecticut. School’s are closing early because of the heat, as they did yesterday, since most of our schools do not have air conditioning. I don’t mind it so much as long as there is A/C I can escape to. The record high was broken yesterday as we reached 96 degrees, today we’re expecting 98 degrees which will break yet another record. As the saying goes, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity” (we hear that a lot around here). Read more: We’re In Hot And Humid Soup Till Midweek

This Amazes Me

Published by tuna under Local News

I saw this video on our local newspaper’s website that caught a hit and run in our state’s capitol. I’m amazed at the people who keep driving by and the hesitation of the bystanders to go over to see the victim. He’s 78 years old, apparently ran out of milk for his coffee and went to the store across the street to buy some, then this happened. Now he is paralyzed from the neck down. Police are still trying to find the person driving the car that hit him. The car that hit him was pursuing the car in front of him, they had just run a red light before hitting the man.
